On 29 July 2025, Manningham Housing Association (MHA), a proud member of BME National, hosted the BD5 MELA 2025 at St Stephen’s Church in West Bowling. The event was a vibrant celebration of culture, community and summer spirit, welcoming residents of all backgrounds to come together in a shared space of joy and connection.
The historic church venue was transformed for the evening into a lively festival site, filled with music, colour and the aroma of freshly cooked food. With a theme of “Celebrating Culture,” the event reflected MHA’s strong commitment to inclusion and bringing people together across generations and communities.

Visitors enjoyed a wide selection of food, from biryani and kebabs to sweet treats like pink tea and pancakes. Activities included face painting, henna, balloon modelling, workshops, races and games, alongside live performances and a community photo booth. The evening also saw the presentation of the Garden of the Year Awards, recognising local green-fingered talent.
Feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive, with suggestions to make next year’s MELA even bigger. The success of BD5 MELA 2025 is a testament to the dedication of the MELA Working Group and the strength of the local community.
BME National is proud to see members like Manningham creating meaningful spaces where residents feel seen, valued and connected.
