The Better Social Housing Review report was published on 13th December 2022 with seven key recommendations for improving the quality of social housing. The BMENational Executive met on this day and released the following statement.
BMENational has considered the report recommendations and accepts them.
However, it is evident from reading the body of the report and as highlighted in the introduction that structural inequalities clearly exist in the housing sector, especially in regards to race inequality.
We want to see the sector address these issues with explicit actions that lead to greater equity for black and minority communities with regards to the quality of housing they live in, and the services they receive.
BMENational want to play a lead role in any action plan that would see major changes in addressing structural racism in the sector. We would be happy to have further discussions with the National Housing Federation and Chartered Institute of Housing to look at how this could be facilitated as part of an overall action plan.
